Breakfast on the Shore – Synod 2020
Pope Francis says in The Joy of the Gospel:
Everyone needs to be touched by the comfort and attraction of God’s saving love, which is mysteriously at work in each person above and beyond their faults and failings.
Jesus met these fishermen coming home from work and cooked their breakfast, and they recognised him — an ordinary everyday situation changed by an encounter with the Risen Lord. At the heart of our Synod is the truth that God speaks to us in the ordinary events and situations of our lives, if only we take the time to stop and listen. This first Synod question invites us to recognise God’s presence in the day to day events of our lives.
Synod Question 1
Where in your everyday life do you experience love, truth, goodness, hope and joy?
We have come to the time when we, the Parish members, are invited to contribute to the Synod process. Over the next 6-8 weeks meetings will be arranged for us to come together to share our own experiences with reference to the Synod’s questions. In these meetings there will not be discussions or debate, but listening to each other without judgement. Please do try to attend these meetings as your contributions are very important to the Synod going forward.
The 1st two meetings are as follows
Tuesday 14th May at 7:00pm in the Seed Room (OLSS)
Monday 20th May at 7:00pm in the Canterbury Room (STOC)
Prayer: Light a candle and take a moment’s silence before praying:
Risen Jesus, just as you met the first disciples beside the Sea of Galilee,
meet us on the shore of our lives.
Help us to see you in the encounters we have each day
and enable us to draw strength from your presence.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Don’t forget, Our Lady, Star of the Sea first family group social gathering is next Saturday 11th May at 3pm in the Seed Room. Board games and there will also be afternoon tea and coffee. Could you please email firstname.lastname@example.org or contact Kellie on 07584239465 to let the leaders know if you are bringing any snacks. Looking forward to seeing you there!
