Sixth Sunday of Easter 26th May 2019

Pope Francis says in The Joy of the Gospel:
The Holy Spirit works as he wills, when he wills and where he wills; we entrust ourselves without pretending to see striking results. We know only that our commitment is necessary. Let us learn to rest in the tenderness of the arms of the Father amid our creative and generous commitment. Let us keep marching forward; let us give him everything, allowing him to make our efforts bear fruit in his good name. [279]

Jesus promised that the Holy Spirit would teach us everything. This Synod process is about listening to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church in Liverpool now, through the different voices and experiences of all its members and discerning the way forward together. This fourth question is not about listing our favourite causes or fixed opinions: it invites us to reflect on all the answers we’ve heard to the previous three questions and then to listen carefully to what the Holy Spirit is saying to the Church through us.

Synod Question 4
Having reflected on these things, what are the topics you would like to see on the agenda of Synod 2020? (a maximum of 5)

Light a candle and take a moment’s silence before praying:
Risen Jesus, as we listen to and reflect on your word
may we hear the voice of your guiding spirit
who will reveal to us everything we need.
May we find the strength, courage and impetus
to move forward in your ways
and may that deep inner peace you promise be ours.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

There will be another Synod listening meeting in the Canterbury room (STOC) on Tuesday 28th May at approximately 12:45 following 12:00 mass. Refreshments will be available.

CHURCHES TOGETHER – Sunday 9th June 2019, 3.00pm – 5.00pm
Join us on Pentecost Sunday for an afternoon of prayer and unity as we celebrate the strong links between Liverpool’s two Cathedrals.
Celebrations will start at the Metropolitan Cathedral with a service at 3pm. After the service, Church Leaders will congregate on the piazza outside of the Cathedral, and visitors are encouraged to meet with them. From here, people are invited to make their own pilgrimage to Liverpool Cathedral.
At Liverpool Cathedral there will be an informal Taizé style service beginning at 4:30pm.
We would like to encourage everyone to attend and pray together that through God’s Spirit we may bring hope and blessing to our city and region.
