Twenty Third Sunday in Ordinary Time

From the Desk of Fr Dominic
As our Schools have started back this week let us pray for all the Children, Parents and Staff as they begin this new academic year. As we pray let us remember Pope Francis words: “True education enables us to love life and opens us to the fullness of life.”

“Caring for Our Common Home. Creation Time
– 1st. September – 4th. October”.
Pope Francis has asked us to mark this period with prayer and action in relation to the Earth and our place upon it. In his encyclical, Laudato Si, the Pope urges us to be good stewards of creation, to care for our planet and not to “steal” resources from the poor or from future generations.
Suggested Action for This Week:-
• Please pray that all people, including those in authority, “hear the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor” and take action to limit global warming.
• Reflect and act on how in your life you can refuse items you don’t need, re-use and then recycle those you do need.

Annual Novena to Our Lady held at St Edmund of Canterbury
The Novena takes place each Wednesday at 7:15 pm. It commences on August 14th till October 9th. The theme we are following this year is “Mary, the Undoer of Knots”. This devotion is very dear to Pope Francis, one which many find helpful in their daily lives. In view of the Novena there will be no procession in honour of Mary after the
10:00 am Mass on Sunday, August 11th.

RCIA On the 30th September we are starting our RCIA sessions which will commence at Our Lady, Star of the Sea at 7pm. This is a homely course for those who wish to become Catholics or for Catholics who wish to learn more about their faith. We have a warm and friendly group of people to welcome you and accompany you on the journey, which consists of Parish Priests and lay people from the parishes of Our Lady, Star of the Sea & St Thomas of Canterbury and St Edmund of Canterbury. The sessions will alternate between Our Lady, Star of the Sea and St Edmunds monthly. I am very much looking forward to being part this journey with the group, so if you would like to be involved, please contact me at the parish office.
