Thirtieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

SYNOD 2020 Next Steps:
For each theme we will have four weeks to listen some more, reflect, and then make proposals for action on that theme for the Synod, which will be voted on and guide the Archbishop in writing a Pastoral Plan for the Archdiocese.
The theme we are reflecting on for the next few weeks is:
• All called and gifted by God
To help us in this there will be two Parish meetings, where we will look at the themes, listen to each other and discern some proposals under the title of All called and gifted by God. These meetings will take place:
Star of the Sea Church: Tuesday 29th October, 7:00 pm
St. Thomas’ Church: Thursday 7th November 7:00 pm

Also we will have a Prayer station in each Church, to enable us to pray and discern as small groups or individually, about what ‘proposals for action’ we believe the Holy Spirit is calling the Church in our Archdiocese to look at and we want our Parish to send forward to the next step in the discernment process.

From the Desk of Kenny
I’ve been spending a lot of time at hospital lately as a close family member is very ill. Lots of time spent with family members I don’t see that much, nursing staff, doctors and people I might bump into, who I don’t know. What has really struck me in these times of upset and uncertainty though, is how we become stronger together and how each one of us brings something different to the table as a comfort or source of support. Community togetherness. There is currently lots of care and attention going into our period of discerning what proposals we put forward on the Synod2020 themes. I have certainly witnessed examples lately how all people are called and gifted by God.

On the weekend of Nov 3/4 there will be an appeal by a representative from SURVIVE-MIVA , a Catholic lay Association providing funding for essential transport for health outreach in isolated rural areas, and for the Church’s pastoral care in places of difficult access.
